Dr. Delores A. Runnels was appointed to serve as Commissioner with the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women by Senator Greg Treat on March 7, 2019. She served on the Advisory Council for two years before being appointed Commissioner. In 2020, she was elected Vice Chair and in 2021, she became Interim Chair. In 2022, she was
Immediate Past Chair which consisted of serving on the Executive Board. During her tenure, she has had the opportunity
to offer a word of prayer over all Commission meetings. She has had the honor of conducting the Invocation for several years at various Hall of Fame Events, Human Trafficking Summits, Kate Barnard Awards, just to name a few. Delores was a member of the Advisory Board for the Oklahoma City Career Academy for Douglas High School and served on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Children’s Theatre. She started a nonprofit organization called “Career Daze, which connects the classroom with the real world.” In hopes of helping students better prepare for life after high school and college, she believes in helping students focus on developing a career before
graduation. She thinks this will help eliminate generational cycles of crime and living below the federal poverty threshold. Delores has actively focused on this endeavor since 2008. Business professionals from various careers and backgrounds enter area schools and share their stories of failure and success with students. Her motto is: “It’s not how you start; it’s how you finish, so finish strong.” In addition to this, she organized several young women’s leadership conferences at Putnam City North High School. As the Director of Women’s Ministry, Delores is on a mission to reach out to women in crisis. Her Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies and over 15 years of experience in the legal field have equipped her to lead with empathy and understanding. She earned a Doctorate Degree in Sacred Studies from the Christian Life School of Theology in
Columbus, GA. Her work in women's ministry is a source of inspiration and empowerment for many.
